Here, at St Mewan, we are enthused about Maths and work hard to pass our enthusiasm onto the children. Our enthusiasm is born from our belief that it Maths is a set of fundamental skills that are found in every aspect of life. Therefore we strive to equip every child with the basic skills to achieve success in all aspects of life - through maths. Our children participate in Maths every day and their lessons equip them for the maths skills required in everyday life: money, time, and measure. In every lesson, we ensure there are high-quality resources to enable children to deepen their understanding of the math topic being explored and develop their connections. As well as this, we revisit each new concept several times in quick and exciting ways to facilitate the knowledge “sticking.” By the end of their journey in Year 6, our aim is that every child has acquired the knowledge and skills in primary school Maths to a high standard so that they are able to use these skills within school and in every day life, both now and in the future. We aspire to prepare them for secondary school and future careers and life. Below you will find further information about how we teach maths in all its forms.
